The Mon Fayette Expressway:  I-68 to Uniontown

The West Virginia Department of Transportation's Division of Highways continues construction of the Mon/Fayette Expressway from Interstate 68 to the West Virginia/ Pennsylvania Stateline.  The Pennsylvania section of the Expressway opened for traffic on March 1, 2000 with PA Governor Tom Ridge and WV Governor Cecil Underwood cutting the ribbon to allow motorists to use the Expressway from the Fairchance Interchange south to the Gans Road Interchange.  Much of the Expressway mainline in West Virginia has been graded.  Four construction contracts have yet to be bid, which include the interchange at Interstate 68 which will also provide access to Route 857, a bridge over Morgan's Run, a contract to construct frontage roads for the Expressway, as well as a truck escape ramp. West Virginia Division of Highways is awaiting funding for the completion of the Expressway.  Once all funding is in place, the Expressway is anticipated to be opened within two years.
