The Mon-Fayette Expressway: Uniontown to Brownsville SectionClick here for an entire website dedicated to this section. The
final design phase of the Uniontown to Brownsville area project consists of
approximately 15 miles of new limited access highway between U.S. Route 119 near
Uniontown and PA Route 88 west of Brownsville with an estimated total
construction cost of $360 million. The
project includes a new major river crossing over the Monongahela River south of
Brownsville. For
the final design phase, the project was initially divided into four pre-final
design sections: Section 51 A/B, Section 51 C/D, Section 51 E and Section 51
F/G/J. At
the conclusion of pre-final design (which is expected to take approximately one
year), the four roadway design sections will be further divided into eight final
design/ construction sections and a Monongahela River Bridge design section.
The final design phase is anticipated to last approximately two years
from the conclusion of the pre-final design phase.
In addition to the design of the roadways and bridges, activities that
will occur during final design include core borings along the proposed highway,
as well as additional environmental and archaeological studies in the field. Property
owners should expect project team members entering their properties to complete
these studies. As final design is
completed, right-of-way acquisition will begin.
However, additional funding will need to be identified before actual
construction can begin. |
