The Mon-Fayette Expressway: I-68 to Uniontown SectionMason-Dixon Tolls, Trips Exceed ProjectionsACTUAL TRAFFIC COUNTS ARE BELOW. Traffic volumes on the Pennsylvania side of the Mon/Fayette Expressway's Mason-Dixon Link are running ahead of opening year projections, based on counts for its first ten months of operation. Actual trips from March 1, 2000, when the Pennsylvania side opened, through December 2000 averaged 56,537 per month. Not surprisingly, the month that produced the most trips was March, the first month, with 66,203. The forecasted total for the first year was an average of 34,200 per month. Fare revenues averaged $48,732 per month over the first 10 months compared to a forecasted average of $23,250 per month. Gross revenue for the first year was projected at $279,000. At present, the Mason-Dixon Link is open from Big Six Road/PA Route 43 in Georges Township, Fayette County, to the southernmost interchange in Pennsylvania at Gans Road in Springhill Township, Fayette County. The Gans Road interchange is 1.6 miles north of the West Virginia line. The Mason Dixon Link will be 12 miles long - eight miles in Pennsylvania and four miles in West Virginia when completed. Traffic volumes on the Pennsylvania side are expected to triple when the West Virginia side becomes operational, anticipated for Spring 2004. To date, the West Virginia Department of Transportation's Division of Highways has awarded two of the six construction contracts that will complete the Expressway to Interstate 68 in West Virginia.
